Who said PR isn't a glamorous job?

Anybody in public relations will tell you – we get to do the most interesting things for our clients. I used to think being asked to hold Elizabeth Dole’s shoes in a bag while she did an interview with a KSAT reporter was interesting. Until yesterday.

Yesterday, I had a client tell me to call the hotel where its speaker had been staying, ask them to check the refrigerator for some items he had left behind in the refrigerator and retrieve it for him. Oh, that would have been easy enough if it had been a special drink or even medicine. But no. In this case, it was a cauliflower with rubber eyeballs.

Oh, yeah. This is definitely a glamorous job.

How about you leave me a comment with your most interesting PR assignment. Can’t wait to find somebody with a story that beats rubber eyeballs.

We ran a promotion where a child won the prize of having a cartoon charcter birthday party complete with a visit by the character. I was the only one small enough to fit into the costume. It had a very large head that made it difficult to see. The costume was thick padding which made it very hot and hard to move around in without falling. To top it off the birthday boy’s toddler brother attached himself to my leg during the entire time because he “likes to give hugs.”

The birthday boy was very excited and despite the sweat pouring from places I didn’t know I had, I liked making the kid’s day. That was until an older boy tried to ruin it for him by saying “That’s not him! There’s a girl in there!”
